Smoke’s Poutinerie

Bacon Cheeseburger Poutine

Yesterday my husband and I had the absolute pleasure of going to Smoke’s Poutinerie for lunch. And eat we did, let me tell you! After lunch at about 1:30, we were stuffed all night. Smoke’s Poutinerie is located on 18th Ave SW, just east of 4th Street. I noticed that they are open on Sundays now too, which is our usual day to dine out as we take the kids out after church – so that is always a huge bonus for us!

So let me tell you about the poutine, as we tried a bunch of different flavors. The picture above is their most popular, The Bacon Cheeseburger. The bacon was perfectly cooked, crisp just like I like it and it had a very nice cheese sauce on it too. We will be ordering this one again next time we go, since I think our kids would love it. One order would be enough for our 3 kids to share, as the portions are quite big. If not big enough for you, then you can upsize any poutine for $3.00.
Nacho and Traditional Poutine
We also tried the Traditional, cuz you always have to try the traditional, and the Nacho Grande. The Nacho Grande was my husband’s favorite, as they have very good guacamole, and I must say the chili was pretty darn good too. It’s made in-house, and is exactly how you want chili to taste. It also comes with salsa, sour cream and jalapeno peppers. It was delicious! Below is a picture of my favorite, the Veggie Deluxe. The gravy was a bit thicker on this one, plus I am always a sucker for sautéed mushrooms and caramelized onions, and let me tell you they got them just right. So vegetarians and carnivores alike can go and try this great new Calgary eatery. We enjoyed it and can hardly wait to go back!

You can find Smoke’s Poutinerie on 18th Avenue SW, just east of 4th Street (click here to see a map).

Harvest Cafe- Canmore

Harvest CafeYesterday I had the absolute pleasure to eat at The Harvest Cafe in Canmore. It is an absolutely adorable little cafe set in the middle of town, they serve soup, sandwiches, desserts and what looked like a tasty little breakfast menu. However we were there for lunch, so the eggs we did not try, we did however eat soup and sandwiches until ready to burst. My poor delicious cauliflower soup didn’t even get finished because I was just plain too full. I started the meal with a creamy hot chocolate. It was a drizzly rainy day so I was happy to warm up while we waited for our food to come. Then was the meal, I had a chicken and brie wrap, it was served with a delicious cranberry mayo and a cup of cauliflower herb soup on the side. The sandwich was quite flavorful, cheesy goodness abounded, and the cranberry mayo was the a perfectly matched little jolt of flavor. My husband had the Canmore specialty Grizzly Paw Root Beer to start, I stole some, it was great. Then the b.l.t and tomato soup , all was good, he said his meal was just perfect. We both liked that the mayo actually came on the side as a dip instead of on the sandwich , really nice touch! Overall, I would say if you are ever in Canmore this is a restaurant that you simply must try!
