Extreme Pita-Calgary

Extreme PitaSunday lunch. We were on the lookout for something close to our church (in the Northeast), fast and healthy. My husband is still a bit under the weather so eating a big greasy burger and fries, wasn’t the best idea. So off to Mr.Sub we drove. It was closed. I noticed a sign for Extreme Pita, in the next parking lot over so we made our way over. It is right by McGavin’s which I like to buy all my bread at, because at 1.39 a loaf for the nice it’s a price that can’t be beat, plus there is a bulk barn in the parking lot as well, and bulk barn is always a good time. Anyhoo onto the lunch, the kids meals are great, for 4.99 you get either a pita, or pita pizza, cookie and small milk. All the kids loved it! My pita was pretty tasty too, and I continued my love affair with Tzatziki and got a grilled chicken pita. All the ingredients were fresh and everything was made right in front of you, so I must say we were all pretty pleased. For a family that rarely goes out for pita, I venture a guess to say that could all change!

Chop Steakhouse & Bar

Sirloin with sidesWow, there has not been a lot of cooking going on in our kitchen! After a week of me being sick and basically opening canned soup for my children, my husband took out the family on Sunday, and last night we went on a date. We have decided to make sure we go on one really great date every month this year. Not really a New Year’s resolution, but a “we want to put a priority on this part of our lives”. I am excited. After dinner we went and saw Les Miserables, which we both really enjoyed and thought Russel Crowe did a great job, quite opposite of what everyone else seems to be saying, but hey we liked it! Anyways, I am getting ahead of myself, as you are sitting there reading a food blog, you probably want to hear about our dinner. We finally checked out Chop. It has been there for quite a while, and as my husband and I are both a big fan of steak, I am quite surprised we have never tried this place before! They have meals called the chopped experience that include a starter salad or soup, steak, veggies, and your choice of side. We both ordered that. I started with the French Onion Soup, it was quite tasty, a little thicker than the usual French Onion Soup, but delicious none the less. I then had a sirloin steak, with mashed potatoes, which very strongly tasted of horseradish. I like horseradish therefore really enjoyed them, however if you are not a fan you probably want to order a different side. My husband started with the caesar salad, he said it was really good, he ate the whole thing before I could take a bite, so I will have to take his word for it. That’s okay though I got him back when his food came. He ordered the New York, with a side of white truffle Mac and Cheese. That Mac and Cheese was the best thing of all that we ordered and I will admit my fork made my way over to his plate more than once. The dessert menu looked pretty good, however we were both too full to try anything from it, so we will just have to try again next time. Although being right beside a movie theater it could be the perfect opportunity to go out for desserts after a show. So yes, if you haven’t been, give it a try. It truly was a lovely experience.Rib eye with Mac and Cheese

Buffalo Wild Wings

Buffalo Chicken Wrap, chips and salsaI have been wanting to try out Buffalo Wild Wings since I saw that it opened, so the family and I finally made it out on Sunday. This restaurant definitely has the sports bar feel with loud T.V’s all around you all playing different various sports channels, but it also has kid’s menus! The kids all loved this place, and unlike their parents, actually ordered the wings. I thought kid’s meals were pretty well priced, for 4.49 you get a choice between wings, chicken fingers or cheeseburger all with fries, however, a drink is apparently not included as we discovered when we got our bill. My husband had the burger and was really quite thrilled with, even proclaiming it to be one of the best burgers in the city. I was quite happy with my buffalo chicken wrap that came with tortillas and salsa. All in all we had a wonderful time, and will be returning for sure. kid's wings

Selkirk Grille

Cornish HenLast night was time again for one of our favorite nights of the year. The office Christmas party. Yes, it is true, good times are always had by all. We always get to start the evening with a lovely dinner out. This year it was Selkirk grille, located in Gasoline Alley just outside of Heritage Park. We started off sharing some appetizers, Duck Confit Poutine, Salt and pepper Squid, and a meat a cracker platter (there was a fancier name for this, however sadly, I don’t remember what it was). All were delicious, my personal favorite was of course the poutine but that’s just because I really love poutine! Soups and salads were next, not ordering one myself, all I can say is everyone was very pleased. Then on to the main course, I ordered the Duo of Cornish Hens. The skin was perfectly crispy, the sage bread pudding on the side was delectable! My husband ordered the beef tenderloin (pictured below) the few bites that I tried were also delicious! Next on to dessert, I had the chocolate creme du pot- ( think that is what it was called), basically a creamy, rich chocolate mousse with a side of shortbread cookie. I can honestly say it was the perfect ending to the meal. There was not one morsel eaten that was not enjoyed to the extreme, and with a party of 12, I can say we all left very happy, very full, and ready to go back for more.Beef Tenderloin
