Yes, it is true. We finally made it out to visit IHOP. We were so excited when we learned that Calgary was finally getting our favorite pancake stop. So on a very snowy Sunday we drove down and endured the wait. Sunday at lunch time we knew it would be quite a wait to get in, and after about 45 minutes we were seated. I have read a few of the reviews on the new IHOP, most of them honestly, are quite bad. Our food(for the most part) came out exactly as ordered and was delicious. I had the pancake combo which included hash browns, eggs, bacon and my choice of pancakes (many, many different kinds to choose from), I went with the double blueberry. Best part of the meal for sure. The one exception would be my daughter’s macaroni, which came out cold, but they quickly made her a new meal when she sent it back to the kitchen. The menu is quite large for a breakfast place, and has many lunch options, and even dinner entrees to choose from. I for one am glad that IHOP has finally made its way across the border, and it is a restaurant my family and I will be visiting again and again.

Sushi Ginza- Calgary
Last night we took the kids out. We usually reserve dining out for Sundays, it’s our family catch up time, as my husband works nights on Fridays and Saturdays. As it was Oscar party time on Sunday, we decided to go out on a Tuesday night instead. The kids had fun trying out the chopsticks, and watching dad eat sushi. The raw fish was a bit much for them. We all liked our meals, although kids meals would have been helpful. In lieu of those we let the kids pick what they wanted and dad took some from each of their plates, as we knew there was no way they would finish an entire adult portion. I think the teriyaki chicken was the favorite, although my son ordered the Ten Don, which is Tempura shrimp and vegetables over rice and sauce, and he really liked that as well. I had the Sukiyaki Beef Don, it was excellent. The kids loved the booth, so not only was it dinner but a fun experience for them.

Extreme Pita-Calgary
Sunday lunch. We were on the lookout for something close to our church (in the Northeast), fast and healthy. My husband is still a bit under the weather so eating a big greasy burger and fries, wasn’t the best idea. So off to Mr.Sub we drove. It was closed. I noticed a sign for Extreme Pita, in the next parking lot over so we made our way over. It is right by McGavin’s which I like to buy all my bread at, because at 1.39 a loaf for the nice it’s a price that can’t be beat, plus there is a bulk barn in the parking lot as well, and bulk barn is always a good time. Anyhoo onto the lunch, the kids meals are great, for 4.99 you get either a pita, or pita pizza, cookie and small milk. All the kids loved it! My pita was pretty tasty too, and I continued my love affair with Tzatziki and got a grilled chicken pita. All the ingredients were fresh and everything was made right in front of you, so I must say we were all pretty pleased. For a family that rarely goes out for pita, I venture a guess to say that could all change!

Chop Steakhouse & Bar
Wow, there has not been a lot of cooking going on in our kitchen! After a week of me being sick and basically opening canned soup for my children, my husband took out the family on Sunday, and last night we went on a date. We have decided to make sure we go on one really great date every month this year. Not really a New Year’s resolution, but a “we want to put a priority on this part of our lives”. I am excited. After dinner we went and saw Les Miserables, which we both really enjoyed and thought Russel Crowe did a great job, quite opposite of what everyone else seems to be saying, but hey we liked it! Anyways, I am getting ahead of myself, as you are sitting there reading a food blog, you probably want to hear about our dinner. We finally checked out Chop. It has been there for quite a while, and as my husband and I are both a big fan of steak, I am quite surprised we have never tried this place before! They have meals called the chopped experience that include a starter salad or soup, steak, veggies, and your choice of side. We both ordered that. I started with the French Onion Soup, it was quite tasty, a little thicker than the usual French Onion Soup, but delicious none the less. I then had a sirloin steak, with mashed potatoes, which very strongly tasted of horseradish. I like horseradish therefore really enjoyed them, however if you are not a fan you probably want to order a different side. My husband started with the caesar salad, he said it was really good, he ate the whole thing before I could take a bite, so I will have to take his word for it. That’s okay though I got him back when his food came. He ordered the New York, with a side of white truffle Mac and Cheese. That Mac and Cheese was the best thing of all that we ordered and I will admit my fork made my way over to his plate more than once. The dessert menu looked pretty good, however we were both too full to try anything from it, so we will just have to try again next time. Although being right beside a movie theater it could be the perfect opportunity to go out for desserts after a show. So yes, if you haven’t been, give it a try. It truly was a lovely experience.
