Yesterday I took the kids to The Keg for lunch. When we dine at the Keg it is usually in the evening, however my daughter had her immunization, and we let her pick what restaurant she wanted to go to for lunch. As we were sat I noticed there were no other kids in the restaurant. Also there were no other women. Just us and ever other table was filled with 2 men. Surrounded by tables of men on business lunches I was very thankful that I have such well-behaved children. They quietly ordered their lunches and we proceeded to have a lovely lunch for four. I tried the chicken club and spinach salad. I have had the spinach salad before lovely as always, the chicken club was good, I really liked the addition of avocado. My daughter ordered the BBQ grilled chicken, which came with roasted red peppers, asparagus and French fries so I was pleased with the addition of vegetables. The kids, they were pleased that the kids meals come with ice cream at the end. So for a quiet mid-week lunch meal, I think The Keg is the place to go!

IHOP- Calgary
Yes, it is true. We finally made it out to visit IHOP. We were so excited when we learned that Calgary was finally getting our favorite pancake stop. So on a very snowy Sunday we drove down and endured the wait. Sunday at lunch time we knew it would be quite a wait to get in, and after about 45 minutes we were seated. I have read a few of the reviews on the new IHOP, most of them honestly, are quite bad. Our food(for the most part) came out exactly as ordered and was delicious. I had the pancake combo which included hash browns, eggs, bacon and my choice of pancakes (many, many different kinds to choose from), I went with the double blueberry. Best part of the meal for sure. The one exception would be my daughter’s macaroni, which came out cold, but they quickly made her a new meal when she sent it back to the kitchen. The menu is quite large for a breakfast place, and has many lunch options, and even dinner entrees to choose from. I for one am glad that IHOP has finally made its way across the border, and it is a restaurant my family and I will be visiting again and again.

Chop Steakhouse & Bar
Wow, there has not been a lot of cooking going on in our kitchen! After a week of me being sick and basically opening canned soup for my children, my husband took out the family on Sunday, and last night we went on a date. We have decided to make sure we go on one really great date every month this year. Not really a New Year’s resolution, but a “we want to put a priority on this part of our lives”. I am excited. After dinner we went and saw Les Miserables, which we both really enjoyed and thought Russel Crowe did a great job, quite opposite of what everyone else seems to be saying, but hey we liked it! Anyways, I am getting ahead of myself, as you are sitting there reading a food blog, you probably want to hear about our dinner. We finally checked out Chop. It has been there for quite a while, and as my husband and I are both a big fan of steak, I am quite surprised we have never tried this place before! They have meals called the chopped experience that include a starter salad or soup, steak, veggies, and your choice of side. We both ordered that. I started with the French Onion Soup, it was quite tasty, a little thicker than the usual French Onion Soup, but delicious none the less. I then had a sirloin steak, with mashed potatoes, which very strongly tasted of horseradish. I like horseradish therefore really enjoyed them, however if you are not a fan you probably want to order a different side. My husband started with the caesar salad, he said it was really good, he ate the whole thing before I could take a bite, so I will have to take his word for it. That’s okay though I got him back when his food came. He ordered the New York, with a side of white truffle Mac and Cheese. That Mac and Cheese was the best thing of all that we ordered and I will admit my fork made my way over to his plate more than once. The dessert menu looked pretty good, however we were both too full to try anything from it, so we will just have to try again next time. Although being right beside a movie theater it could be the perfect opportunity to go out for desserts after a show. So yes, if you haven’t been, give it a try. It truly was a lovely experience.

Buffalo Wild Wings
I have been wanting to try out Buffalo Wild Wings since I saw that it opened, so the family and I finally made it out on Sunday. This restaurant definitely has the sports bar feel with loud T.V’s all around you all playing different various sports channels, but it also has kid’s menus! The kids all loved this place, and unlike their parents, actually ordered the wings. I thought kid’s meals were pretty well priced, for 4.49 you get a choice between wings, chicken fingers or cheeseburger all with fries, however, a drink is apparently not included as we discovered when we got our bill. My husband had the burger and was really quite thrilled with, even proclaiming it to be one of the best burgers in the city. I was quite happy with my buffalo chicken wrap that came with tortillas and salsa. All in all we had a wonderful time, and will be returning for sure.
